Each country has a national identity card that the people use to identify themselves with as citizens of that particular country. Countries differ, some of them the identity card comes conjoined with the drivers licence and other important identification documents. In Kenya the identity card comes alone. There is a standard method that Kenyans have used to apply for their national identity card since time in memorial.   • When were you born?

    • Hence for one to apply for a Kenyan ID they need to have the following.

  • Original birth certificate and a photocopy of the birth certificate. The work of the birth certificate is to prove that you were born in Kenya as it usually has a place of birth listed in it. Secondly, the birth certificate is used to verify or rather check your age and see if you are eligible to get an ID. This is due to the fact that one needs to be eighteen years and above to apply for a Kenyan ID. A school leaving certificate can also be used in place of a birth certificate.     How to apply for Kenyan ID

  • You need to have a photocopy of your birth certificate, as well as that of your parents. This is due to the fact that you can leave the originals with the officers that are responsible for making the ID as they may get lost.
  • Form 23. This is the form one requires to fill when applying for the Kenyan ID. This form can be found in any office of a register of persons and all District officers’ offices.

  • One is the issued with a waiting card as the wait for the ID to be made. The ID takes approximately a period of two months to come out.
