Sneaky Pete's, a LeClaire staple, closes after almost two decades

Neighbors in LeClaire, Iowa were in shock Wednesday night.

A long-time restaurant will close after almost two decades in business.

Owners of Sneaky Pete’s Steakhouse made the announcement on Facebook Wednesday afternoon.

They say it’s time for a new chapter and the owner of the Mexican restaurant next door will take over the space.

The owners expect it to be turned into something different.

Dozens of neighbors shared their disappointment online and with Local 4 News.

The sign on the restaurant doors indicates that it’s closed for remodeling but the business Facebook page indicates that the steakhouse is closed for good.

Many neighbors say the American-fare establishment is a town staple.

They remember going there as kids and even bringing out of town guests.

Debra Bunch has been living in LeClaire for 42 years and says she’ll miss the restaurant that became a family tradition.

“Since the kids have been little, I mean they came, we put old ties on them because they cut the ties off and all the ties are hanging in there. Oh, it’s just awesome, the view of the river and the steaks are wonderful. Oh, I’m so shocked to hear that today, my goodness!” Bunch responds after finding out about the closing.

Bunch says Sneaky Pete’s was established before any fast food chain came to LeClaire and was a hub for families for years.
