One Laurel man is dead and another is on the run after a Wednesday night shooting on Johnson Circle, Laurel police reported.
Jeremy Jones, 32, was pronounced dead at South Central Regional Medical Center after being transported there by EMServ Ambulance, Deputy Coroner Ernest Hollingsworth reported. He suffered a single gunshot to the chest area, according to a press release from the Laurel Police Department. His body has been sent to the crime lab in Biloxi for autopsy, Hollingsworth said.
The suspect in the shooting has been identified as 36-year-old Douglas “Rudy” Haynes of Laurel. He could be in the York, Ala., area, LPD Deputy Chief Earl Reed reported in the most recent update.
Haynes has been placed on the National Criminal Information Center database as wanted for the charge of murder, the LPD reported. Lt. Mark Evans is the Lead investigator in the case.
Anyone with information about the shooting or Haynes’ location is asked to call the LPD at 601-399-4440 or Crime Stoppers at 601-428-STOP (7867). There could be a cash reward for information that leads to the suspect’s arrest and conviction. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
